Over the weekend, two SFSC Brain Bowl teams competed in the 21st Annual Delta Burke Tournament held at Valencia College-West Campus in Orlando. They faced 22 teams from eleven state colleges, South Georgia, and a university.

SFSC Orange (A team) went 6-5, ranking 11th overall. The team consisted of Juan Perez (#10 with 45.91 points per game — PPG), Emily Beard (#33 with 20 PPG), Rubi Barajas (#54 with 10.91 PPG), and Josh Gurll (#80 with 0.00 PPG—he didn’t buzz in on the toss-ups but did quite well helping to answer bonus questions).

SFSC Black (B team) went 4-7, ranking 19th overall. The team consisted of Carolina Bowden (#24 with 27.73 PPG), Joshua Clayton (#51 with 12.27 PPG), and Brandon Brignoni (#58 with 8.64 PPG—he improved over the last tournament where he ranked #66). This was Carolina’s and Joshua’s first tournament, and they had a great showing.

Dr. Brian Deery, assistant coach for DeSoto, played on a two-man spoiler team called the Fading Gators. He ranked 31st with 22.73 PPG.

The Brain Bowl season is finished for the fall; the spring season starts Jan. 13 when the teams will head to Santa Fe College in Gainesville for the Second Annual Santa Fe Open. The spring season continues with NAQT Sectionals at SCF on Jan. 20. A win here takes the Brain Bowl team to Nationals in Chicago, March 23-24. They head to FCSAA Regionals at SCF on Feb. 10. Winning here takes them to the state tournament in Marianna, March 16-17.
