Last Saturday, Jan. 13, two SFSC Brain Bowl teams traveled to Gator Country to compete in the IMSANITY5 Mirror Tournament (formerly called the Santa Fe Open Tournament) at Santa Fe College in Gainesville. They competed against six other state colleges and two state universities. The questions were from a national high school championship. Some coaches were caught saying “I don’t remember learning THAT in high school!”
The SFSC Orange team was in the Borglum Division and had a record of 4-4 and came out fourth in their division and ninth overall. Team members included top team individual scorer Juan Perez (210 pts, 26.25 points per game–PPG), Mathew Daniel (175 pts, 21.88 PPG), Josh Gurll (20 pts, 2.5 PPG), and newcomer Brian Simpson (15 pts, 1.88 PPG).
The SFSC Black team was in the French Division and had a record of 1-7 and came out seventh in their division and 15th overall. Team members included Rubi Barajas (80 pts, 10 PPG), Emily Beard (65 pts, 8.12 PPG), Carolina Bowden (40 pts, 5 PPG), and Brandon Brignoni (40 pts, 5 PPG).
Next up, this weekend the SFSC Brain Bowl teams travel to Bradenton to compete in the NAQT South Sectionals. A win here could mean a bid for a national title in Chicago in March.
