SFSC Athletic Department Honors Student Athletes

On May 1, SFSC celebrated the academic and athletic achievements of its Panther student athletes at an afternoon ceremony and reception.

The athletes, their families, and well-wishers gathered in SFSC University Center Auditorium on the Highlands Campus to watch the baseball and women’s softball, volleyball, and cross country coaches hand out awards to student athletes who excelled in the classroom and at play.

Savannah Walter, a member of the cross country team with a 4.0 grade point average, earned Scholar Athlete of the Year.  Quentin Davis, a Panther first baseman with a 3.87 grade point average, earned Scholar Athlete of the Year.  Emily Swenson, a co-captain of the volleyball team, was named Panther of the Year. SFSC president Dr. Thomas C. Leitzel joined the coaches in presenting the awards.

Each team’s coach honored their players with awards in the following categories:

Cross Country- Coach Krista Schult

Academic Excellence: Savannah Walter
Most Improved Runner: Iliana Addison
Most Valuable Runner: Grace Miller

Volleyball- Coach Kim Crawford

Academic and Athletic Excellence: Brooke Westphal, Emily Swenson, Mary Beth Boudrias, and Kayla Wood

Softball-Coach Carlos Falla

Best Offensive Player: Amanda Ross
Most Valuable Player: Vangie Futch
Coach’s Award: Stephanie Norris and Shavoda Howard

Baseball-Head Baseball Coach Rick Hitt

Most Improved Player: Gerig Blackman
Top Athlete Award: Equon Smith
Mr. Enthusiasm: Blaise Maris
Captains Awards: Evan Schaffner and Quentin Davis
