United Way 2018 Campaign Kicks Off Oct. 11

A strong community is a good place to call home. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and when people are in good health. The United Way of Central Florida – Highlands County Division kicks off its SFSC work place giving campaign on Oct. 11.

Ansley Woods, director of the Highlands Division of the United Way of Central Florida, asks SFSC employees to consider a payroll deduction gift of $1 per week.  You will receive information through interdepartmental mail this week with instructions on how to make a pledge or gift. Giving is easy. Payroll deduction, cash, check, credit card, or online donations make it simple and convenient to give.  The money raised in Highlands and Hardee counties stays in Highlands and Hardee counties. Your donation will roll over each year. So, if you want to increase your donation, you will need to complete another form.

SFSC employees who make a gift of at least $25 will be entered into a raffle to win four tickets to see Snowkus Pocus at the Alan Jay Wildstein Center for the Performing Arts plus brunch for four at the Hotel Jacaranda.  The drawing will be held on Saturday, Nov. 18 at the 7 p.m. performance of VoicePlay.

United Way of Central Florida covers Highlands, Hardee, and Polk counties. United Way, Suncoast covers DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties. Those employees who reside in Desoto County and would like to donate specifically to United Way, Suncoast, may obtain a pledge form from the SFSC Human Resources Department and designate “United Way, Suncoast” on the form.

The Highlands County Division supports 22 local community agencies such as the Ridge Area ARC, Peace River Center for Development, NU-HOPE Elder Care Services, Boys and Girl Club of Highlands County, and Champion for Children Foundation. The United Way also supports 2 – 1 – 1 which is a comprehensive referral service for food, clothing, and shelter assistance, medical and health services, help for victims of crime or abuse, support for persons with disabilities, and mental health services.

“The work of the United Way is evident through various community organizations,” said Dr. Thomas Leitzel, SFSC president.  “I give to the United Way because I know they live out their mission, which is to improve lives and strengthen our community.”
