PTK Enhanced Members Earn Recognition for Community Projects

Members of the SFSC Tau Epsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) were presented with enhanced membership status and received stoles and cords in recognition of their leadership and participation. Enhanced membership status requires that the student completes 15 PTK project hours in one semester. Those students were: Ashley Torres, Camila Rimoldi Ibanez, Alma Johnson, Suzanne DelGrosso, Emily Canals, Laura Hernandez, Maxely Perez, Nykerria Jackson, and Adelina Luna.

Recently, the students volunteered in two major college projects — the “Everything But The Turkey” Thanksgiving food drive and “Holiday Cards for Homebound.” Members seeking enhanced membership distributed and retrieved food collection boxes at the SFSC Highlands and Lake Placid campuses, then organized and bagged meal items for 25 recipients for the food drive as their first project. The second project, “Holiday Cards for Homebound,” is a partnership with Seniors Corp and SFSC RSVP. Members asked classmates to sign 200 greeting cards, which will be included in Christmas meal deliveries to local homebound seniors and nursing home residents. Students worked around the challenges of COVID-19 to encourage campus engagement.

Chapter members have the option of purchasing graduation stoles and cords online at ptk.org once they join the organization, or they can receive the stoles and cords from the PTK chapter through enhanced member hours. PTK members who are graduating in a current term are encouraged to find out how they can earn enhanced member hours.

PTK officers for fall 2020 and spring 2021 are: Ashley Torres, president; Camila Rimoldi Ibanez, vice president; Alma Johnson, secretary; and Suzanne DelGrosso, treasurer.
