The annual SFSC Foundation Christmas Luncheon at the Hotel Jacaranda on Wednesday, Dec. 9 attracted approximately 176 guests this year. In addition to a meal prepared by the hotel staff, the event featured a raffle that raised money for scholarships and other SFSC projects. Braden Beaney, a senior attending DeSoto High School and a Take Stock in Children Leaders for Life finalist, told the story of his personal journey in assisting his stepfather, who has multiple sclerosis, and becoming a leader in his community. He plans to attend the University of Florida and, eventually, become a psychiatrist.

Before the start of the luncheon, guests mingled amid the Christmas decorations adorning the hotel’s lobby, an annual labor of love of former College trustee, Joan Hartt, and her helpers. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus were in attendance. Panther baseball players were on hand to sell raffle tickets to the guests, who won a range of holiday-themed prizes. One of those prizes was an especially festive holiday sweater! This year’s Christmas Luncheon raised $10,962.
