Letter from the President

President Fred HawkinsGood morning, SFSC family!

It is with great pride that I have become the fifth president of South Florida State College. It is my intent to follow in the footsteps of my predecessors and maintain the academic excellence for which this College has been proudly recognized since 1965. SFSC serves as a model institution for colleges throughout the state and the goal is to take us to the next level where we will become an institution that is revered nationally — and possibly even globally.

Moving forward, we must maintain and create partnerships with corporations and organizations within our region. These relationships will ensure that SFSC has pathways in place that lead students to the certificates and degrees they need to sustain a high-quality way of life through sustainable wages and the potential for advancement.

While a member of Florida’s House of Representatives, I understood the importance of quality education, so I served on more education committees than any other member and served as the vice chair of the Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee and the whip of all education committees. Throughout my tenure, I sponsored or co-sponsored bills that provided educational benefits for Florida’s students, including free books for fifth graders who struggle with reading and CPR training for ninth and 11th graders, among others. I find great reward in being able to positively influence the lives of students and provide them with the skills and knowledge that they need to succeed.

My wife Tiffany, my daughter Kendrie, and I hope to meet and get to know all of our new SFSC family. We are fortunate to join such an impressive group of educators and professionals at SFSC and look forward to working together as we continue to offer life-changing education and service programs to our community and beyond.
