PTK Sets Up Giving Trees

Giving Tree with booksSFSC’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Tau Epsilon chapter is hosting a project called The Giving Tree from Friday, Nov. 17 through Wednesday, Dec. 13 as part of a literacy campaign for its annual college project.

For this project, PTK students are giving back to the community and the College by serving the needs of SFSC students. Their theme is “The Art of Science and Play” and they are working on “playing it forward” to give back to others based on what they have learned in implementing the project. One of the most important skills students need is literacy — a skill that is learned at a young age but will benefit people throughout their lives.

To encourage literacy, the PTK students have created this event at all four campus locations, and they have set up holiday trees with ornaments depicting different books for children of various age groups. We are asking all students, faculty, and staff of SFSC to please take one of the ornaments and commit to bringing back that book or one similar within that age group and donate it to the decorated box. After Dec. 13, all of the books will be collected by PTK to donate to a local charity. Each campus location will donate to a separate charity to ensure all communities that SFSC serves are represented.

Thank you for your consideration and involvement.
