Signaling the start of a new academic year, SFSC’s annual Convocation was held Monday, Aug. 11, with President Fred Hawkins opening the program. Terry Atchley, chair of the District Board of Trustees, followed with a warm welcome to and accolades for SFSC staff, faculty, and administrators.
During the proceedings, several employees received service awards for attaining 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, and 40 years of service to the College.
The recipient of a 40-year service award was Heather Schubert, administrative assistant in the Athletics Office. Few people may know that Schubert earned the title of “Resident Old Codger” (ROC) in May 2015 for being the College’s longest-serving employee. She followed Dean Jordan, coordinator of accounting, who was named the ROC in 2007. Previous ROCs were Lynn MacNeill, interim dean of Arts and Sciences and communications professor, and Don Appelquist, executive director of institutional advancement.
The 35-year service awards were presented to Ralph Myers and Elisavet Rios.
Receiving service awards for 25 years of service were Charla Ellerker and Lauren Redick.
Recipients of 20-year service awards were Manuel Muro, Marcy Everest, Christian Negron, Joyce E. Simmons, and Phil Rizzo.
The 15-year service awards were presented to Ashley Bennett, Cheryl John, Lisa Johnson-Decarie, Joann Kramer, and June Weyrauch.
