Two SFSC employees, Nancy Velez-Ocasio and Frankie Rodriquez, and their son Caleb Rodriguez-Velez will graduate together during the 5:30 p.m. ceremony of SFSC’s Commencement on Tuesday, May 12 on the Highlands Campus in Avon Park. Nancy works in the College’s Testing Center and will earn her Bachelor of Science in Supervision and Management. Frankie, who works in the IT Office, will earn his Associate in Science in Network Systems Technology. Caleb works part-time at Publix as a baker’s apprentice as well as a rural mail courier for the U.S. Postal Service. He will earn his Associate in Arts. Although plans for a graduation celebration haven’t been firmed up, the family will be joined at Commencement by Nancy’s mother, father, brother, and friends.
To people not sure about attending college, Nancy said: “Even if you think you’re not ready to go to college, just start. When you finish, having a degree or certificate opens doors and offers you more opportunities for a better job. It doesn’t matter if it takes you one year or 10. We live in a society that is very competitive and you need something to give you an advantage.”
