South Florida State College (SFSC) announces a charitable gift of $15,600 from the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. The funds will be used to support programs at SFSC’s off-campus instructional sites. At SFSC’s Hardee and Lake Placid campuses, $4,000 will support the Summer Finishers program for dual enrollment students, $1,200 will set up college prep events for eighth graders, $7,400 will fund testing support, and $3,000 will assist students with the purchase of their graduation regalia.

“In the life path toward our goals, there are often times barriers that trip us up and can even pre-vent us from success. At SFSC’s off-campus instructional sites (OCIS), students are in the remotest areas of our College’s geographical area, and reaching their educational goals can feel tougher than ever,” said Dr. Asena Mott, dean for off-campus instructional sites (OCIS). “When Suncoast Credit Union heard that there was a need, they stepped up and offered support. After an in-depth conversation addressing our student needs that also matched the mission of Suncoast, they graciously supported the plan to help students past these barriers. We have no doubt that due to this support, our students will be directly impacted in a way that smooths their pathway to achieve their goals.”

Suncoast Credit Union, Florida’s largest credit union, founded the Suncoast Credit Union Foun-dation to promote the education, health, and emotional well-being of children in the community. Each time a Suncoast member uses their debit or credit card, the credit union donates four cents to the Foundation to fund local initiatives. Since its inception in 1990, the Foundation has raised and donated more than $68 million.

“We’re proud to support South Florida State College students and others pursuing their dream of a college education,” said Jeff Kunberger, executive director of Suncoast Credit Union Foundations. “We know how important it is to have support along the way, and we hope this donation helps students reach their goals and build a brighter future.”
