Felecia Dozier Receives NAACP Award

LaToya Reed-Lewis (left), president of the Highlands County NAACP; Felcia Dozier; and Felida Council Knighten, Sebring High School guidance counselor Felecia Dozier, SFSC counselor and adjunct professor, was awarded the Gwen Sanders-Hill Memorial Award on Saturday, Sept. 12, during the Highlands County NAACP 2026 Freedom Gala. She was honored for her work as an educator, community advocate, and mental health therapist. When remarking about her award, Dozier fondly recalled that Sanders-Hill was one of her instructors and her mentor.

Sanders-Hill was active in human and civil rights and education. She was a teacher within the Highlands County School District and, later, a member of the Highlands County School Board. She served as a Speech professor and coordinator of the College Reach-Out Program at SFSC until 1994, when she retired from the College.
